Wow I've been following the TD for 4-5 years now and every year my mind is blown!!! I'm really happy for these guys since they've worked so hard to achieve this! It would be nice to keep the race coverage going, I know lots of people stop caring once the winner has finished but there are still absolutely epic bike rides taking place on the divide for several days to come!!!

Josh: We got a series of heavy thunderstorms last night about 200 miles/300 km to the west. I expect that conditions will be brutal with lots of mud on the dirtier parts of the trail today.

the local "monsoon" rains look to be clearing out for a few days & picking up again Monday & most of next week. It's pretty hard to predict as this is the 1st year in many decades that the storms are not coming out of the southeast???

Congratulations to Justinas! It looks so tough out there with all the storms. If you’re caught by the broom waggon are you dqd or can you continue if you want. From what I can see there are lots of dnfs but many of those don’t appear as Scratched on the leaderboard. I thought you are supposed to notify the organisers if you decide to scratch

It seems to me the weather is a major contributor in this race, and I wondered if it were possible to calculate elapsed times adjusted for weather conditions such as any given racers clock stops if local conditions prevent progress. Then I wondered if in the future a race/weather integrated route planning app would be able to calculate the optimum times for a rider to stop and restart given the weather forecast. With such an app it would surely be possible to shave even more off the record time? It would certainly be possible, though tricky, to retrospectively use the weather data post race to determine the optimum stops and starts for any given riders ability to calculate the shortest theoretical race time given that years weather. I hope there are some retrospective videos or documentaries of this years race.
